Indie Spotlight: Gary King’s indie musical, HOW DO YOU WRITE A JOE SCHERMANN SONG

We are desperately in the need of a good film musical.

The next person to try and feed the appetite of the hungriest of musical fans is Gary King, director of last year’s rather superb indie drama, WHAT’S UP LOVELY. His latest film is his stab at the film musical, and is titled HOW DO YOU WRITE A JOE SCHERMANN SONG.

And now, thanks to the film’s Facebook page, we have a collection of new photos, and I must say, it looks fantastic. The film stars Joe Schermann (who also wrote the film’s lyrics and music), Christina Rose, Mark DiConzo, and King’s muse and frequent collaborator, Jenn Dees, and follows “an aspiring Broadway songwriter who jeopardizes his relationships and budding career after he begins working with a talented singer. The story is relevant in that it shows the artist's struggle in today's time - striving for both creative and financial success.”

I was a rather big fan of King’s last film, LOVELY, and have the highest of hopes for this project. The film musical is something we’ve rarely seen done in an interesting manner as of late, and this could be the film we musical fans have all been waiting for.  These photos definitely hint at something special.
