UPDATE: Well, I'll be damned.  This is actually partially true.  Here's the deal.  AICN has the scoop on some new details, and apparently, they are still rolling in.  First off, Tarantino's next will indeed be a spaghetti Western.  The film will not have this title however.  That said, Christoph Waltz is apparently on board to star.  At this point, that's the new news.  Will continue to update as this story breaks.

Now, about a year and a half out from the last time we got a chance to see a Quentin Tarantino film on the big screen in the form of INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, it appears as though Tarantino is not only working on his upcoming KILL BILL: THE WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR director’s cut, but also a brand new project that we’ve been waiting a long time for.

First, let’s qualify this. This is still very much a rumor, and has not been confirmed by the director’s people, but it does sound like quite the possibility that he is somehow involved, directorially or not.

In a recent interview with Movieplayer at the Los Angeles Italia festival (via The Playlist), actor Franco Nero revealed that the director’s next project will be a spaghetti Western, with one hell of a cast so far.

Nero said:

“The film will be called ‘The Angel, The Bad And The Wise’ and is a tribute to Sergio Leone. It’s a movie that contains humor, lots of action, but also a great plot…We have already been signed by a dozen people who will be part of project. Among the filmmakers involved include Quentin Tarantino , Keith Carradine, Treat Williams, fifteen people in all Americans who want to do this movie and so we are trying to produce it outside of Italy.”

Now, at this point, it remains to be seen what the project will exactly be about, and who will direct it. Tarantino has been known to just pop up in random films, and it wouldn’t shock me if this was one of those films. However, Tarantino has also always said he’s interested in making a spaghetti Western, so really, your guess is as good as mine. Personally, I hope he’s directing the film, because there isn’t a name more perfect for the world of spaghetti Western than Tarantino.

More on this as it comes.
