Isabelle Huppert joins David Gordon Green’s remake of SUSPIRIA and Marco Bellochio’s DORMANT BEAUTY
As beloved art house actress Isabelle Huppert’s latest film, Michael Haneke’s AMOUR, gets ready to bow at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the actress has nabbed herself two highly anticipated projects.
First up, Huppert has joined the cast of the upcoming remake of Dario Argento’s SUSPIRIA. Helmed by David Gordon Green, the film has been in the works for years now, and with ORPHAN star Isabelle Fuhrman in the lead role, things appear to be moving forward rather quickly. Huppert joins the likes of Janet McTeer, Michael Nyqvist and Antje Traue. Talk about a cast.
She will also be re-teaming with director Marco Bellocchio (FISTS IN THE POCKET, VINCERE) in the new film, DORMANT BEAUTY. The film will follow the story of Eluana Englaro, a woman who died after being in a vegetative state for 17 years. Huppert will take on the role of an aging actress who is taking care of her daughter.
I am of the belief that Huppert is easily one of the best actresses working today, and she is a perfect fit for both of these films. Green’s SUSPIRIA has been rocky ever since he began making turgidly awful comedies like THE SITTER, but here he seems to be hell bent on making the best film he humanly can. Hopefully Huppert will be able to class up both of these joints.
