J.J. Abrams’ SUPER 8 gets a release date
We may not know what the hell the film is going to be about, but we do now know when we will get to see it.
According to Box Office Mojo (hat tip to The Playlist), J.J. Abrams’ upcoming alien film (and alleged ode to early Steven Spielberg films) SUPER 8, has been given a June 10, 2011 release date, sending it straight into the middle of a jam-packed summer 2011 season.
The is currently being shot, and while we don’t know much about the film, other than a massively cryptic teaser, we do know that the film will star Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, Joel Courtney and Zach Mills, and will be produced by the aforementioned Spielberg.
We do have a rumored premise that would see the film follow three siblings who see a creature in some Super 8 footage, but at this point, anyone’s guess is as good as this writer’s. Personally, I don’t expect to learn a lot about the film prior to its release, as Abrams is one hell of a secretive filmmaker, but I don’t really care. The teaser looks amazing, premise sounds great, and I do love this cast, so really, I frankly don’t care what I do or don’t see prior to the film’s release. I just want to see the damn thing at all.
