J. Jonah Jameson not in SPIDER-MAN reboot?
While much of the comic book film world is focused directly upon the upcoming third Chris Nolan-led Batman film, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, apparently there are other films currently being worked on.
IGN is reporting that, despite rumors of names like John Slattery and Sam Elliott being attached to the role, Peter Parker’s boss, the intense man known as J. Jonah Jameson, hasn’t been cast yet because the character will not be featured in the upcoming SPIDER-MAN reboot.
Now, first things first, you can chalk this story up to rumor at this point. Personally, I don’t see a SPIDER-MAN film without the character. That said, it could work. Parker will be in school, so it may simply be that the character has yet to come into Parker’s life, so while the character to me is essential to the narrative, I do somehow think that this could work. The idea of it is definitely growing on me, particularly with how much is already going to be going on within the narrative. I hate the idea of the character being jettisoned, but if it means a bit of a lighter narrative, I’ll take a sequel featuring the character for a really superb first feature without him.
