In addition to actor and humanitarian, add "arrested while protesting" to George Clooney's list of career achievements.
Demonstrating that he is one to walk the walk, George Clooney was arrested this morning in Washington, DC, protesting outside of the Sudanese embassy. The actor, who recently completed and eight-day trip to Sudan's Nuba Mountains stated that the Khartoum government is undergoing at attempt at ethnic cleansing that includes aerial bombardments, forcing farmers in the region to take shelter in caves. Other notable protestors included U.S. Representative Jim Moran, a Democrat from Virginia, NAACP president Ben Jealous, Martin Luther King III - and George Clooney's own father, Nick.

When asked what Clooney thought about being arrested with his ex-journalist father, the actor responded by saying, "I'm proud to be standing here with my father."

The group of protestors were handcuffed and removed from the steps of the embassy after accusing Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir of provoking a humanitarian crisis that includes blocking food and aid from entering the Nuba Mountain region along the border with South Sudan. As the group were put into a Secret Service van, the remainder of the crowd chanted, "al-Bashir to the ICC" (International Criminal Court).

On Wednesday, Clooney spoke to the U.S. Senate foreign relations committee and told its members of the Sudanese campaign that includes "murder, and fear, and displacement and starvation." He was also granted face-time with President Barack Obama and urged him to to help open a humanitarian corridor in Sudan, thereby allowing much-needed aid to reach the South before the onslaught of the rainy season.
