Wow. I don't know about you, but this first photo from RISE OF THE APES from 20th Century Fox really gets me excited for the upcoming PLANET OF THE APES reboot. What better way to drum up excitement for a film employing state of the art technology to create photo-real apes then to show James Franco staring at a computer screen. Riveting.

The new photo does capitalize on Franco's ever-increasing star power, however, and it sets up the fact that this version of the popular franchise will be more of a science-driven cautionary tale set in present day rather than a sci-fi alternate universe where apes rule.

RISE OF THE APES takes place in San Francisco (you know, that hippie town with all the strip clubs) where some idealistic doctors dabbling in genetic engineering accidentally create intelligent apes that are ready to battle for supremacy.

The flick opens November 23 and also stars John Lithgow, Freida Pinto, Andy Serkis, and Brian Cox. See you on the front lines.
