James Franco Rise of the ApesWhile he already seems like the busiest man alive, James Franco has finally solidified not only one of his upcoming directorial projects’ casts, but when he’ll actually be shooting it.

In speaking with MTV, the actor/writer/artist/director/apparent snowboarder/everything revealed that “this summer I’m going to direct a movie based on William Faulkner‘s novel ‘As I Lay Dying,” which hw has been attached to for a few months now.  “I shoot a test of the whole movie before I make a movie. So we just shot a test.”

The actor also reveals that Michael Shannon, Paul Dano, Richard Jenkins and even Joaquin Phoenix are all part of the film’s potential cast at this point.  Talk about a cast to truly launch your directing career.

Personally, while I’m not a huge fan of Paul Dano, he has proven himself to be quite a solid thespian, and while Franco has yet to really prove himself as a filmmaker, you couldn’t ask for both a better piece of source material, and also a better cast to make a splash in Hollywood with.  Shannon is one of today’s most interesting actors, and this may very well be Phoenix’s first film back in his post-I'M STILL HERE career.

More on this one as it comes.
