James Gray’s LOW LIFE heading to TIFF?
Apparently director James Gray doesn’t need much time to make his projects just the way he likes them.
In chatting with the director a week or so prior to a screening of his underrated gem of a film, WE OWN THE NIGHT at BAMcinematek, The Playlist learned a bit about his upcoming film, LOW LIFE, and what they learned was quite intriguing.
The film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Jeremy Renner and Marion Cotillard, and follows an immigrant who tries to help her sister after she gets caught at Ellis Island. During their interview, they discovered that Gray not only thinks it is his “best work” with his actors doing their best as well, but that it will be done in “15 weeks.” The goal is to hit Toronto or Venice later this year.
Talk about a fast turnaround. Personally, as a rather big fan of Gray and his work, I have really high hopes for this sucker. The cast and crew here are so superb that it would take a massive failure to not be one of the year’s best films. Here’s to hoping those expectations can be lived up to.
What do you think?
