POST GRAD.

That’s the one film on the list of credits for one Kelly Fremon, the writer of that 2009 Fox 2000 comedy, but that’s apparently enough to get yourself a gig under the watchful eye of one James L. Brooks.

Deadline is reporting that Brooks’ Gracie Films has picked up a spec penned by Fremon, entitled BESTIES. The film will be helmed by Fremon, and will follow “two high school girls who are best friends until one dates the other’s older brother, who is totally his sister’s nemesis.” Brooks will also “mentor” Fremon, as this will be her directorial debut.

Along with other, unproduced credits including THE GOOD LIFE, THE BEST MISTAKES, and an untitled project for Fox Searchlight, Fremon does appear to have fans in Hollywood, and you couldn’t argue for a better one than Brooks. Personally, I haven’t seen POST GRAD, so I can’t comment on her writing ability, but despite the cliché premise, Brooks’ involvement in this project does definitely have some heft behind it. I am always intrigued by female filmmakers, so while it may not seem like anything special, there is quite a bit to look forward to.
