James McAvoy don’t know nothin’ ’bout no MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS
H.P. Lovecraft is basically the Dennis Rodman of literature. He has a kick-ass name, dyed his hair rainbow colors, and also held the most NBA rebounds per game record for seven consecutive years. Okay so only one of those is true, but Lovecraft can also add "Guillermo Del Toro adaptation" to his undead resume. Previously we've heard that Del Toro's adaptation of AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS would feature monster-man Ron Perlman and possibly James McAvoy. Recently McAvoy was asked about the project while promoting GNOMEO AND JULIET, turns out the AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS casting rumor was...well...madness. Check out the jump for the full quote.
Thanks to Cinema Blend for the quote:
"I don’t know anything about the story, but he’s an amazing director. I would be very lucky to be able to work with someone like that one day."
Way to be on the bummer patrol, McAvoy. Why couldn't you just play coy and lie to the interviewer telling him something like, "I doooon't knowwww. Tee hee! (wink wink)". Instead you've ruined all chances of us miss-casting you in a movie that's so far off in the future the Mayans will have projected us all dead for a year. Stupid Mayan jerks.
The possibility still exists for McAvoy to land a part in AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS but my guess is something else will come along before the opportunity arises. I vote for Hulk Hogan as his back-up. "Those mountains are so MAD, brother!"
