Jamie Foxx confirmed for DJANGO UNCHAINED?
Who thought the go-to source for news surrounding director Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film, DJANGO UNCHAINED, would be a former magazine editor-turned-podcast host.
According to a tweet (hat tip to The Playlist) from The Q&A host Jeff Goldsmith (who absolutely nailed the casting of Leonardo DiCaprio in the film), Will Smith has been ousted from the lead role in the film, and has been replaced by Jamie Foxx.
Foxx had been rumored to be the role’s frontrunner for a while now, so this should come as no real surprise. That said, it’s a bit of an odd choice. About 100 pages into the film’s script, this writer has a tough time really gauge who exactly would be perfect for the role of Django, but it doesn’t scream Foxx.
Foxx is a fine actor, don’t get me wrong, the film just seems a bit rougher and bit grungier than anything Foxx has done prior. Someone like Idris Elba would fit the role of Django perfectly. Outside of this, the casting seems spot on. Both Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz are ripe for awards-worthy turns, as their respective roles are ones that they will absolutely eat up. Foxx is a definite wait and see.
