Janis Joplin biopic still in the works; to be directed by Fernando Meirelles and starring Amy Adams
Now this is a film I can get behind.
According to an interview with Fear Net, TWILIGHT producer Wyck Godfrey said the long talked about biopic based on the life of Janis Joplin (once starring Zooey Deschanel and called THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JANIS) is currently still in the works. Not only that, but it even has a star and director. Hit the jump for the full story.
The producer said that “a Fernando Meirelles Janis Joplin movie with Amy Adams playing Janis Joplin,” is on his company’s slate. This means that the film, once set to follow the last day in the singer’s life, is still apparently in the works.
One would believe that this film is different than GOSPEL, but at this point any guess is as good as mine. All I do know is that this most likely will be a bit of a ways off, as Meirelles has announced he is directing the Peter Morgan penned sex drama, 360. This one could very well move ahead of that film, particularly if Godfrey actually has the film on his release slate. So, as of the writing of this, not much is really known about the film.
But, this is one I can’t wait for. Meirelles is a brilliant filmmaker, and Adams is an inspired choice to play the singer. Overall, you really couldn’t ask, for a better project. At least, in my opinion.
