Japanese SUPER 8 poster will give you a CLOSE ENCOUNTER
If you thought the new poster released for J.J. Abrams' SUPER 8 was part of the film's mysterious viral marketing campaign, being encoded in what appeared to be an alien language, then you would be wrong. And I would feel sorry for you. Because that is Japanese. And just kind of offensive.
So, what does it say? Well, according to a comment from a well-versed master of languages on IMPAwards, the tagline translates to ''We Are Not Alone" which is of course a blatant nod to CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, along with the poster design being fairly similar to a few from Steven Spielberg's 1977 extra terrestrial classic (see below for comparison). I would venture to say that SUPER 8 itself is one giant nod to films like CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, E.T., and just the films of Spielberg in general. Fitting then that Señor Spielbergo is one of SUPER 8's producers. And, for all those reasons, I could not be more excited.
The mystery unravels June 10th, when SUPER 8 invades theaters. Check out the very cool poster after the break.
