Japanese trailer and two new posters for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN alludes to a more serious Spidey

I was never really fond of the Sam Raimi-directed SPIDER-MAN trilogy. While the first and second films were fun, I always felt that Tobey Maguire just simply wasn't right for the role, while the horrible portrayal of Venom was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Now that the reboot, titled THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, is nearing, closer looks at the film that examine every detail in an effort ro determine what type of movie it's going to be are taking place. Thanks to a new Japanese trailer and two new posters, we now have a better idea of what to expect.

First up is the trailer from Inside Movies, which is quite dark in its overall tone. You get glimpses of The Lizard, the principle enemy of the film, as well as of Uncle Ben and Aunt May (Martin Sheen, Sally Field), portrayed as much younger than their Raimi counterparts. Whether or not the film will be popular enough to spawn sequels is anyone's guess, but when paired up with THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and THE AVENGERS, you just know this superhero-filled summer is going to be a doozy. Trailer after the jump.

Next up are two new posters, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies. The posters are relatively tame, though they certainly portend a darker Spider-Man, including one that features a beaten Spider-Man with gashes across his chest (see below).

You can find out for yourself when the film is released on July 3rd.
