Jason Momoa is Marcus Nispel’s CONAN
When we last checked in with Marcus Nispel's reboot of CONAN THE BARBARIAN, he was still missing a lead. He'd narrowed it down to two: Kellan Lutz (TWILIGHT) and Jason Momoa (“Stargate: Atlantis”), and now Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Momoa has scored the coveted roll, which began Arnold Schwarzenegger's movie career when the original was released.
A few days ago, Millenium and Lionsgate wanted a better known actor to play the part, but Momoa "won over the filmmakers by shooting a few trial scenes that allowed Momoa to wield a sword and behave very Schwarzenegger-like." I'm not the biggest "Stargate: Atlantis" fan, but from the clips I've seen, Jason isn't the greatest actor, which might actually work to his advantage on this film.
The movie is now on schedule to start filming in Bulgaria on March 15th. No release date has been announced, but we'll probably see it some time next year. The plot is not known yet, but the movie is expected to be more faithful to Robert E. Howard's original Conan stories than the 80s movies.
