Jason Statham

Get ready for Jason Statham to find a new way to take his shirt off during an action sequence. Deadline reports that the actor is currently circling the lead role in ECHELON. Eric Bana was once attached for the lead in the thriller based on the novel Firewall, the third book in Andy McNab’s 13-book series.

Simon Crane, stunt coordinator on THE TOURIST and SALT, will make his directorial debut on the film. Statham would play Nick Stone, “an SAS soldier who finds himself caught between the Russian Mafia and western secret agents trying to get their hands on the Echelon computer program.”

McNab definitely knows the source material as a retired SAS soldier. He based the bestselling non-fiction novel, Bravo Two Zero , on his own experiences of going behind enemy lines in the first Iraq war. After the books success he swtiched gears and wrote the Young Adult series featuring his Nick Stone character.

I think Statham is perfect for this part and hope he decides to sign on to the project. I am sure he’ll also find away to exhibit his amazing driving skills again. I believe that driving and going shirtless are standard clauses in his contract.
