Javier Bardem offered a lead role in BOND 23
And the big casting news keeps rolling in.
Coming off of his Best Actor nomination for his turn in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s BIUTIFUL, actor Javier Bardem has reportedly been offered a lead role in the upcoming Sam Mendes directed take on the Bond franchise.
The 23rd James Bond feature will star Daniel Craig as the man himself, and while the role has yet to be revealed, it’s likely going to be for the film’s main villain, which is quite an enticing idea.
Now, while this makes a bit of a problem for the production of the upcoming DARK TOWER film/TV franchise (of which Bardem has been rumored to star in, going against one Viggo Mortensen for the lead role), I do love the idea of Bardem taking on a Bond villain. He’s obviously great thespian, who has played his fair share of baddies, and this would likely allow for him to absolutely chew up the scenery, which could be really fun. Bond villains always tend to have something over the top about them, either as a character or in their performance, so count me in.
While things appear to be a bit of a mess behind the scenes over at MGM (Deadline also reports that the studio is trying to talk possible buyers into picking up the rights to not only the studio’s upcoming films, but their back log as well), systems do seem to be a go when it comes to this hotly anticipated project.
More on this as it comes. What do you think?
