Jean-Claude to cause Van Dammage in THE EXPENDABLES 2?
It's still unclear why one of the 90's greatest action heros, Jean-Claude Van Damme, was absent from Sylvester Stallone's THE EXPENDABLES. I do recall watching a press conference with him on YouTube where he discussed a phone call from Stallone, but a lot of it was mumbo jumbo and I couldn't really understand what he was saying. I'm going to pretend Stallone told him he wasn't allowed to punch rattlesnakes in the face, so he declined.
Well, looks like Van Damme will be expendable after all. According to the message boards on Van Damme Fan (via Twitch Film - thanks Todd!), the Muscles from Brussels will be playing the second principal villain in the sequel to THE EXPENDABLES. This came straight from Sheldon Lettich, longtime pal of Van Damme and writer of BLOODSPORT, DOUBLE IMPACT, LIONHEART, and a few straight-to-DVD Van Damme flicks.
I don't like the idea of Van Damme playing the villain*, but that's because I'm biased and he was my hero growing up, but I'm somewhat of an adult now and after giving him much respect for his unflinching self portrait in JCVD, I like that the man is challenging himself.
Stay tuned for more updates. Hit the break to see Van Damme punch a (rubber) rattlesnake in the face.
