Jeff Bridges will not be in GREAT HOPE SPRINGS
In a move that will crush both the biggest Jeff Bridges fan I know (your erstwhile soundtrack reviewer, Allison Loring) and my mother (who has been discussing this film as if it were already made), it’s now been reported that Jeff Bridges will not be teaming up with Meryl Streep on Mike Nichols’ GREAT HOPE SPRINGS. The film follows an older couple who turns to “an intense couples' counseling weekend” to save their fractured marriage. The pairing of Streep and Bridges struck seemingly everyone as pitch-perfect, and I’m a little crushed that we won’t get to see it on screen now.
Coming off his incredibly well-deserved Oscar win for CRAZY HEART, Bridges is more of a hot commodity than ever, and the actor certainly has enough on his plate lately. In terms of just upcoming releases, he’ll be deluged with both a big press push for TRON: LEGACY and finishing up filming on the Coen brothers’ TRUE GRIT remake. Per Bridges’ standard operating procedure, these are two film I cannot wait to see.
There is no word on who will now be taking the role of Streep’s husband in the flick, and our friends over at Cinema Blend sagely bemoan the lack of a suitable match for Streep in terms of talent and age. They list actors such as Stanley Tucci, Robert Redford, Jon Voight, Dustin Hoffman, and Tom Hanks as interesting possibilities that still don’t quite match up in terms of age. Do you have any ideas as to who you’d like to see work through marital issues with Streep?
