Sometimes there are bits of perfect casting, and then there is casting that is far above even that. That’s what we have here.

According to THR, Jim Broadbent and Brenda Blethyn are set to voice an upcoming adaptation of the legendary Raymond Briggs novel, Ethel & Ernest. The two will play the titular characters in a story that follows a couple, based on Brigg’s own parents, from when they meet to their deaths.

This follows other Briggs adaptations like WHERE THE WIND BLOWS and the animated short THE SNOWMAN, and while no director has been announced, I can’t help but wait anxiously for this project. It screams pitch perfect drama, and with two fantastic actors with distinct voices getting behind it, only makes it all the better. With this cast, particularly Broadbent who is able to emote so brilliantly with his voice, you really can’t go wrong here.
