Apparently Joaquin Phoenix really is still here.

Deadline is reporting that the I’M STILL HERE star is currently the front-runner to play mentor to the 16th President of the United States Of America in the upcoming adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith novel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

The film is set to star Benjamin Walker in the titular role, and the outlet reports that, if Phoenix wants the role, it’s his.

Personally, I really love this casting. If it ultimately comes true, this could be a really interesting return to the big screen for the actor, who hasn’t really had much of an acting life post-I’M STILL HERE. However, with his upcoming turn in James Franco’s AS I LAY DYING, this could be yet another step in the new career of one Joaquin Phoenix. He’s a really talented actor who gave what is one of my favorite performances of the past five years in I’M STILL HERE (depending on your belief of the truth of that film), so expect much more on this as it comes.
