Joe Carnahan has made a career directing a grab-bag of random films (A-TEAM, SMOKIN' ACES, NARC). Currently he is working with Liam Neeson on a film titled THE GREY. But Carnahan's work doesn't look to be slowing down any time soon.

According to Deadline, Carnahan is set to write and direct the thriller titled UMBRA. What is UMBRA exactly? Well, we're not really sure the current version of the script even knows what UMBRA is about. Read on for more...

ScriptShadow gave UMBRA a review about a year ago. Here's what they had to say...

"Umbra is one frustrating-ass script. David happens upon a strange package jammed halfway into a mailbox in front of his house. He can’t resist opening it (would any of us be able to?) and finds a cassette tape inside. He buys an old tape player so he can listen to it. At first, we don’t hear what the tape says. All we see is David’s reaction as he listens…Midway through the tape, David gets a look on his face of such profound fear, we realize he’s heard something horrible. And here’s where Umbra will either get you or lose you. The rest of the script is David going to work, suspecting he’s being watched, suspecting he’s being pursued, is pursued…all while we get bit by agonzing bit of the tape…"

So really, there are two outcomes here; One, it's just like any other shitty thriller that comes out in  given year and they pay-off leads to nothing but disappointment. Two, the secret behind the cassette tape is very awesome and gives us a thriller worthy of swooning over. With Carnahan attached, it's hard to say which way the film will go but I can't say I won't be keeping an eye out for more news on this story as it goes on.
