Talk about a career booster.

Deadline is reporting that actor and current “it” guy, Joel Kinnaman (SNABBA CASH, SAFE HOUSE, The Killing) has signed on to star as the titular robot cop in the upcoming remake of ROBOCOP.

The film is set to be helmed by Jose Padilha, and is based on a new script from hot writer Josh Zetumer.  After being eyed for roles in films ranging from THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. to WB’s ARTHUR AND LANCELOT, the actor has become something of a hot commodity around the film production world.  Personally, while I only really know Kinnaman from Killing, I do really dig Padilha’s previous work, and think that this could be one hell of a way to restart the franchise.  Is it a film that needs a remake? No, as it is absolutely killer even to this day, but it is definitely a type of film that could really do well in today’s film market. This is the role of a lifetime, and while he may not be the most seasoned of actor, he may be just the fit this role needs.

What do you think?
