UPDATE: We can all hold our horses on this one, as Cinema Blend is now reporting that the man in question is not Johnny Depp. -Kate

Looking somewhat out of place and a little bit creepy, Johnny Depp has shown up in one of the first images from Martin Scorsese's upcoming 3-D children's story HUGO CABRET. Le Parisien posted the photo last week and revealed Depp's character as M. Rouleau, an abstract painter who helps the children during their grand adventure.

Featuring Asa Butterfield and Chloe Moretz as the two leads, the cast already includes Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Kingsley, Ray Winstone, Christopher Lee, Jude Law, and others. So throwing Depp into the mix in a small but pivotal role only adds to the quality of the production.

HUGO CABRET is set in 1931 and follows a young boy who lives within the train tunnels of Paris. The boy, Hugo (Butterfield), meets Isabelle (Moretz), and the two become whisked away on an adventure that leads them to a mysterious, magical toy shop where an incredible invention called The Mechanical Man is discovered.

The film opens on November 23.
