Just twenty-four hours after we found out that Tom Hanks would be joining the upcoming Kathryn Bigelow drug parable SLEEPING DOGS, it looks like he’s found a companion, and an unlikely one at that.

Deadline is reporting that actor Johnny Depp is currently being looked at to join the film, which will be set in the drug-addled landscape at the border of Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil, a base for criminal activity.

Previously connected to actors like Sean Penn, Will Smith, Javier Bardem, and Christian Bale, it looks like those were all silly rumors compared to the rather eclectic cast that seems to be building here. Mark Boal will be back from THE HURT LOCKER to pen the film’s screenplay, which is reason to be even more excited for this already massively hyped project.

Personally, I dig the Depp casting a bit more than the Hanks casting, but really, you can’t go wrong with those two names being attached to a new project from Boal/Bigelow. I absolutely adore this film’s premise, and then tossing on this massive collection of talent, and you have one hell of a film to look forward to. What do you think?
