Johnny Depp will be in MY AMERICAN LOVER
With a title like MY AMERICAN LOVER, I had to find a swoon-worthy picture of Johnny Depp for the ladies. Johnny Depp is one of those actors that can be in the most unappealing movies ever made, and it will still be a movie worth seeing. He is just so incredibly talented. It seems that now he will star next to his partner of twelve years, Vanessa Paradis, in a film that is much less commercial than in his recent career.
The film is about French feminist Simone de Beauvoir (Paradis) and her lover Nelson Algren (Depp). When asked about the film, Depp claims that his character "is real macho." He told a little bit about Simone for anyone who didn't know much about her.
“Simone de Beauvoir was a 20th century French writer and philosopher famous for her treatise The Second Sex, an analysis of women's oppression and contemporary feminism and her open relationship with existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre. She traveled through Latin America with writer Algren in 1949.”
The film most likely won't happen any time soon as Depp has a very full schedule coming up with the next PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN film and THE TOURIST. This film will probably come after both of these films have released. MY AMERICAN LOVER is also set to be directed by WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE colleague Lasse Hallstrom.
It is really nice to see Depp doing something significantly less commercial, as his less commercial roles are some of his best films. It almost seems like Depp going back to his roots a little bit. Hopefully this movie is good, and even if it isn't, I'm sure we'll get a great performance out of Depp.
