Johnny Knoxville to be cast as Moe

THE THREE STOOGES has had a strange array of casting rumors (from Sean Penn to Justin Timberlake), but one of the rumors will soon be made official.

According to Variety, Johnny Knoxville (of Jackass fame) will soon sign a deal to play Moe in the Farrelly brothers' big screen adaptation of The Three Stooges. Hank Azaria was also being considered for the role. The other two Stooges have yet to be cast, but Andy Samberg and Will Sasso are both in contention for the role of Curly, while Justin Timberlake, Woody Harrelson, Shane Jacobsen, and Larry David are up for Larry.

I wish I could be more excited about this project, but both the Farrellys and Knoxville have not had much success recently in narrative films (HALL PASS and THE DUKES OF HAZARD, respectively). I hope this is the film that gets the brothers, as well as Knoxville, back on track because right now it looks like their glory days are far behind them.

The film is set to start shooting in April and will hit theatres as early as next year.
