Deadline
is confirming what has been suspected to be true for a long time now: that Channing Tatum will be joining Jonah Hill to star in a big screen version of 21 Jump Street. They will both serve as executive producers on the project, which is being scripted by CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS writer-directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

The film will be based on the television show of the same name, which starred Johnny Depp as one of a group of young cops who go undercover in high schools and universities. There's no word yet on what roles anybody will be playing, though Hill has hinted at a desire to have Depp appear in a cameo in the project.

What do you think of this news? Personally, I think a 21 JUMP STREET movie could be a lot of fun, particularly with Hill heavily involved in a writing and producing capacity. On the other hand, the thought of having to sit through another Channing Tatum performance makes me queasy. Who knows, maybe his role will be comedic and give him a chance to show more range as an actor.
