Jonathan Winters is Papa Smurf
Okay, so that headline is a little misleading. Jonathan Winters won't be taking a dip in blue paint to be a part of the cast of the new SMURFS movie that we've been telling you about, but he has signed on as the voice of Papa Smurf. Actor/comedian Winters has been in the biz for quite a while now. At 84 years old, Winters has had an impressive career rubbing elbows with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Johnny Carson, and Robin Williams.
Winters' film acting works include IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD, THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING, THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING, THE ADVENTURES OF ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE, THE FLINTSTONES, and THE LOVED ONE. He also made many television appearances as a regular guest on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson," "Mork & Mindy," and he also hosted his own show, "The Wacky World of Jonathan Winters."
Having such an iconic comedian/personality attached to THE SMURFS project does lend some credibility to what seems like an unnecessary film. If you think you are unfamiliar with Winters' work, you probably aren't. Head over to YouTube, where you can find a great deal of video clips including interviews and stand-up performances.
