Justin Bartha and Aasif Mandvi join Todd Solondz’s DARK HORSE
According to Production Weekly, Todd Solondz may have just gotten a rather interesting duo to topline his next drama, DARK HORSE.
The outlet recently tweeted that Justin Bartha and Daily Show staple Aasif Mandvi have joined the cast of the upcoming drama, along with TV actor Jordan Gelber. The film is described as an “edgy character drama,” which is exactly what one would expect when talking about a new Solondz film.
We don’t quite know about the film’s plot yet, but it apparently won’t be “gentler” than his previous works, but it won’t be controversial either. Personally, I dig this cast, and if there is one thing that Solondz is truly able to do, whether you like his films or not, is get the best performances he can from his selected cast. This will definitely mark the most interesting role for those involved at this point, particularly Mandvi, who is an actor that has been more than poorly used over his past few projects.
That all said, it’s still a Solondz film, so that in and of itself will be reason enough for you to check it out. Films like PALINDROMES and HAPPINESS have made him a filmmaker I will give the benefit of the doubt to, so this is one film I’ll be keeping a keen eye on.
