With the film still, for some reason, moving forward over at Sony, it appears that the upcoming remake of the 1990 Paul Verhoeven film, TOTAL RECALL, may have just found a leading lady.

Deadline is reporting that Kate Beckinsale has been offered one of the film’s female leading roles, and will join Colin Farrell. The actress, wife of the film’s director Len Wiseman, has been offered the role of Lori, previously played by Sharon Stone.

The outlet also reveals that both Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are “serious contenders” for the role of Melina, previously played by Rachel Ticotin. Beckinsale joins Farrell and Bryan Cranston as the only ones currently cast in this hotly talked-about project.

Personally, while I’m not totally sold on Beckinsale as an actress, she has proven to have a lot of talent, particularly in wonderful little films like LAUREL CANYON from THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT director Lisa Cholodenko. It’s a wonderful film, and she’s more than great in her role. Hopefully this project will prove to be shocking, in that it can actually me something worthwhile. The cast so far does give a bit of hope, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
