Coming off her rather stunning turn in the great HBO mini-series MILDRED PIERCE, Kate Winslet has found herself quite a different project to star in.

Deadline (or is it EW, as both have EXCLUSIVE tagged all over their pieces, so I'll cite them both) is reporting that the actress will lead the upcoming film, LABOR DAY, for director Jason Reitman. The film is based on the Joyce Maynard novel, and will feature a screenplay from Reitman.

Winslet will star as “a single mother of a young son who takes in a stranger with a dangerous past. She falls in love with him over the course of Labor Day Weekend.” The film has been talked about for quite some time now, with this being the first real move forward for the project in awhile.

With Winslet set to again play as an Oscar favorite this year thanks to CARNAGE, the upcoming Roman Polanski film, this will be quite a change of pace for the actress. It should really go without saying that Winslet is among the best of the best acting-wise, but with such a talent aboard a project like this, launches it straight to the top of my most anticipated list. Toss in Josh Brolin, who has been confirmed as the film's male lead, and you have a can't-miss project.
