Katherine Heigl off of ADALINE
So much for all my jabber about Katherine Heigl potentially proving her acting chops to me with ADALINE, as the actress has dropped out of the film, right on the heels of Angela Lansbury joining it as the titular character's daughter.
Heigl has reportedly left the film after she was possibly "fired after agreements with Lakeshore [Entertainment]." Though Heigl doesn't have the best reputation around Hollywood, I doubt that she'd be quick to break off ties with Lakeshore, who produce both THE UGLY TRUTH and the recently-wrapped ONE FOR THE MONEY. The official word is that Heigl has departed the female spin on BENJAMIN BUTTON to spend more time with her baby daughter. I'd rather believe something sweet like that anyway.
The role will "be immediately re-cast" and, over at The Playlist, they sagely note that, despite not knowing any other potential candidates, we should look no further than recent possible casting lists for other hot ticket films, like THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, the ALIEN prequel, and GRAVITY. Somebody call Abbie Cornish.
The film was set to lens this March, and it appears that everyone is still shooting for that start date, so expect to hear firm casting news very soon. Anyone you'd like to see in the role?
