Kathryn Bigelow to helm HBO pilot for THE MIRACULOUS YEAR

Seriously, this is getting a bit obnoxious.

Coming off of the news that Todd Haynes was set to adapt the novel, Mildred Pierce, into a miniseries for HBO, and the copious amount of projects they are putting together with the likes of Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, and Michael Mann, hearing that Kathryn Bigelow will be directing the pilot for HBO’s upcoming series, THE MIRACULOUS YEAR, is the cherry on top of that epic, world shattering cake.

According to THR, the filmmaker will be helming the pilot of YEAR, a show created by screenwriter John Logan, who has penned the scripts for films like THE AVIATOR and THE LAST SAMURAI.  The show is a story of a New York family, as seen through the eyes of a Broadway composer.  She will also executive produce the show along with Logan.

This, along with the news that she will be directing TRIPLE FRONTIERS, a film that sees her re-teaming with HURT LOCKER scribe Mark Boal, as well as HELD BY THE TALIBAN, comes as no shock.  Coming right off the insane success of THE HURT LOCKER, it’s not nearly surprising to hear that the filmmaker is being sought after.  She has been a treasured talent for many years now, and it’s more than welcome to see her pick up the output of films.  It’s not only great to see a great voice in the world of action filmmaking and directing as a whole, but a female voice is more than great.  THE HURT LOCKER is a fantastic film that is better with more viewings, so I really can’t wait to see what she has in store for this show.

Currently, YEAR has been ordered for just a pilot, but with the group collected here, I would doubt that this doesn’t get picked up, in some sense of the word.  Count me in, no matter what happens.
