Kathryn Bigelow’s TRIPLE FRONTIER shoots this spring
2011 could prove to be quite the year for one Kathryn Bigelow.
With a top secret black-ops thriller somewhere in the works (a film shopped around by Bigelow and writing right hand man Mark Boal), we now have news that reveals her long talked-about drug parable, TRIPLE FRONTIER, may be starting production a bit earlier than previously thought.
In speaking to Shock Til You Drop, producer Charles Roven revealed that plans are to still get the film into production this very spring. Reports surfaced a while back stating that the film was likely being pushed to a mid-2011 start date, but it looks like those were either false, or have simply fallen through.
The film is slated to star Tom Hanks, and while this does sound truly great, it puts the status of their black-ops thriller in question. That film was originally slated to start shooting while FRONTIER found its footing, but it appears as though that’s come faster than previously thought. This also takes names like Johnny Depp (who will be shooting DARK SHADOWS this spring) and Christian Bale (same for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES) out of the cast as well.
So you win some (a new Bigelow film sooner than previously thought) and you lose some (Depp and Bale out). What do you think about this news? I personally can’t wait for this film, and it’s nice to know that it appears to be going full steam ahead.
