Keira Knightley will not be MY FAIR LADY
The MY FAIR LADY remake has already seen its share of roster chatter - there were many rumors regarding directorship belonging to either Danny Boyle or Joe Wright, but both those rumors were snuffed out in December with the firm attachment of SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE director John Madden. But Keira Knightley has long been (at least loosely) attached to star in the film, so it's a bit surprising that word is now out that she has officially dropped out of the project, leaving them without a titular fair lady to transform.
So who might fill Eliza Doolittle's fair little shoes?
Reports are that interest is primarily directed at hiring on a real Brit for the the role. The top names at this point include Carey Mulligan (AN EDUCATION), Emily Blunt (THE YOUNG VICTORIA), and Gemma Arterton (QUANTUM OF SOLACE). Mulligan has a background in theater, and Blunt's debut role was actually in a stage musical in 2000. But it's still unclear if any of the three possible leading ladies truly have singing prowess, and really how much that will play a part in final selection.
Do either of these three English roses appeal to you as Eliza?
