Kevin Bacon to join X-MEN: FIRST CLASS?
I don’t remember a day when X-MEN: FIRST CLASS didn’t have some sort of casting news to report.
According to Deadline, Kevin Bacon may now be joining the film as the project’s yet-to-be-revealed villain. He would join Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Caleb Landry, and Nicholas Hoult, and while I’m not sure who the villain could be (Mastermind?), I do think that it would give the film another rather fantastic actor, particularly under the eye of director Matthew Vaughn.
Looking at KICK-ASS, if he can get a similar turn, maybe not in tone, but in conviction, from Bacon as he did out of Nicolas Cage, an actor I don’t necessarily like, but respect, this could be a performance that would make the film really work. I don’t adore the choice, but it is one that I see hopefully working out for the better.
The film is shaping up to be a really interesting cast that features young up-and-comers in the roles of the students themselves, along with people like McAvoy and Fassbender as the two elder statesmen, Professor X and Magneto. This is far from the film that I had really expected when it was first announced, so while this is in and of itself a rather random and mixed bag of a casting choice, it’s one that could be really interesting for the final product.
