Coming off of his rather breathtaking documentary LIFE IN A DAY, director Kevin Macdonald, who will see the premiere of his latest film, THE EAGLE, later this month, has taken over one of the most highly anticipated documentary projects of recent memory.

Deadline is reporting that Macdonald has now jumped aboard the long gestating documentary project, MARLEY.

Originally set as a Martin Scorsese project, the look at the life of one Bob Marley was then handed over to director Jonathan Demme, who apparently has moved off of the project.  Set up at The Weinstein Company, it has not been revealed if the film will stay with the beloved company, but that does appear to be the case.

The film is currently near completion, with a release likely being sometime this fall, so expect this one to play heavy into the fall film awards slate.  Personally, the film sounds like a really interesting project, and while it will be produced with the hands of the Marley family on it, meaning it will likely be a really loving look at the music icon, hopefully it’s half as entertaining and engrossing as LIFE IN A DAY, one of the best documentaries I’ve seen in a really long time.
