Kitsch and Collins going to MARS
Major casting has happened for the fantasy film JOHN CARTER OF MARS, including the title role. Taylor Kitsch, who first become known to the world and my fantasies (I fantasize about going to amusement parks with people, so its nothing weird) as the likable, but severely flawed, Tim Riggins on FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, will be playing John Carter. Kitsch also recently played Gambit in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. Kitsch definitely has the look of big screen hero, and other than sometimes forgetting his accent as Gambit, seems to a pretty decent actor, so this move could definitely work.
The other principle role in the film - Dejah Thoris, the princess of Mars - has been filled by Lynn Collins, who co-starred with Kitsch in WOLVERINE as Kayla Silverfox. I feel pretty confident in saying that those making the casting choices for JOHN CARTER OF MARS have seen X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE.
JOHN CARTER OF MARS will mark the non-animated directing debut of Andrew Stanton (WALL-E, FINDING NEMO, A BUG'S LIFE). Production is set to begin early next year on the film.
I don't hate these choices. What about you?
