KUNG FU PANDA was an absolute delight and was probably the best Jack Black performance since SCHOOL OF ROCK. The KARATE KID reboot made serious bank and was surprisingly good. So, it seems natural that the two should join forces, right? The sequel to the karate chop saga featuring Jaden Smith (who still doesn't hold a candle to Ralph Macchio) and Jackie Chan (a close second to the late Pat Morita) will be written by KUNG FU PANDA scribes Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reiff.

More details, after the jump!

No details have been revealed about the plot but I'm sure it will involve more training, a new karate move, a new montage and a change of scenery. When a flick makes $300 million worldwide, a sequel is a given, and although it hasn't been announced that Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan are on board for another go around, they would be hard pressed to find a reason not to return to a budding franchise.

Hopefully, writers Voris and Reiff can inject some of the inventiveness on display in KUNG FU PANDA into the KARATE KID sequel so this won't just end up being another cash grab. Maybe Smith will get a girlfriend and go to Golf 'N Stuff in the sequel! I love Golf 'N Stuff...I'd live there if I could.
