With James Cameron attached to produce the film, the long talked-about remake of the classic sci-fi film, FANTASTIC VOYAGE, may be lacking a director, but it’s got a new writer.

According to THR, Laeta Kalogridis has been hired to re-write the film, which follows a group of scientists who shrink themselves in order to enter the body of a friend to save his life. Kalogridis is probably best known as the writer for Martin Scorsese’s brilliant film SHUTTER ISLAND, as well as a producer on AVATAR, a credit she gained after working on the film’s screenplay.

Personally, while I’m not all that interested in the project now that Paul Greengrass has left the film, I do have to say, Kalogridis adds quite a bit of credibility to the project. Cameron producing means this thing will get a pretty decent budget, and should see production start some time relatively soon. Hopefully a director can be found as this project does sound quite intriguing.
