New Odd Future video from filmmaker Lance Bangs
Because when I think of just the right director to work on a video for a new track from indie hip hop “it” kids Odd Future, I think of a documentarian.
Best known for his documentaries and his work with Spike Jonze, Lance Bangs has released his video for Odd Future’s 'Oldie' from the recently released tape The Odd Future Tape Vol. 2. It’s a brilliant video, proving that Bangs is not only a great video director, but that the shockingly overrated crew known as OFWGKTA is far closer to their Wu-Tang Clan comparisons than one would have previously imagined.
Basically finding the crew inside of a cipher of sorts, each member gets their chance to prove their talents on the microphone, and they each really steal the show. Left Brain kills with his spot at number three, and it’s all launched by a killer 16 bars from head honcho Tyler, The Creator. As a video, it’s not crazy inventive, but it does sit as probably the least anarchistic video the crew has ever released. There’s also a fun documentary looking at member Syd Tha Kid, also helmed by Bangs. Enjoy.
