Lars Von Trier to helm THE NYMPHOMANIAC as his next film
Not one to shy away from controversy, Lars Von Trier is apparently ready to go from the world-ending melodrama of MELANCHOLIA to something wholly different.
In speaking with the director, Screen Daily discovered (via The Playlist) that the director will next helm a film entitled THE NYMPHOMANIAC. And, yes, it sounds as crazy as that title sounds. The director said that the film will be “about a woman’s erotic birth, a woman who discovers her eroticism,” and that he had gone over the title, going between NYMPHOMANIAC and DIRT IN BEDSORES. So yeah, that’s the type of film you’ll be dealing with here.
Now, there is little else to talk about here with regards to this project, as no cast has been put together, and that financing may very well be hard to come by, given the subject matter, something that the director himself admits.
That all said, this is insanely intriguing. Von Trier’s career has been steeped in the world of the female experience and, while critics have been wary of his actual take on this, it is something that he appears to be very interested in. This sounds absolutely intriguing, so hopefully this will be able to find a bit of footing relatively soon.
