Latest round of HUNGER GAMES casting chatter

If it is a day ending in "y," that means I have HUNGER GAMES casting news for you. However, this latest round of news is much more interesting than the last few bits I've had to feed to you, as it involves some very eyebrow-raising names - but "eyebrow-raising" in a good way (about time).

The first news comes to us from Vulture, by way of our pals over at Cinema Blend. Of course, given the swift kickdown Vulture's last HUNGER GAMES casting exclusive got (that being the one where they claimed John C. Reilly was within inches of being offered the role of Haymitch), let's take this one with a grain of a salt. The outlet claims that, despite coming up against some tough nondisclosure agreements around the Hollywood agency-hood, they've gotten word that Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, and Lenny Kravitz have all been offered roles in the film.

Vulture can only confirm one role - that Harrelson's offer is for the role of Head Gamemaker, Seneca Crane. Most people seem confused as to the possible Kravitz and Tucci roles, but those choices seem somewhat clear to me - Tucci as evil and complicated President Snow and Kravitz as Katniss' stylist, the sensitive and smart Cinna. I simply can't imagine any other roles worthy of these talented actors that are still available in this first film. For the first time in a long while, I approve of these possible casting choices.

After the break, check out the four new tributes just announced for the first film, including District 5's own wily "Foxface."

The new tributes have been announced over at THE HUNGER GAMES official Facebook page. You can get a look at them on the nifty Tributes page there. And, hey, they look like kids! That's cool. But, honestly, some of these last few tribute announcements have featured some really baby-faced actors, which is a wonderful choice for the film - it will only increase the impact that kids fighting to the death will have on the audience. Not twenty-two year olds playing kids, real kids. Like many of the other young tributes, these actors and actresses are relatively new to the screen.

District 4's tributes will be played by Ethan Jamieson and Tara Macken (an actress who has also done a ton of stunt work). We never learn their characters' names, and though their roles are not particularly huge, an incident that happens in the Hunger Games arena involving Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Macken's character proves to be a turning point for Katniss. In the other two books in the series, Catching Fire and Mockingjay, we get to know another District 4 tribute, Finnick, quite well, so there's a bit of  soft spot for District 4 amongst HUNGER GAMES fans (well, at least this one). Of note - District 4's main industry is fishing.

District 5's tributes will be played by Chris Mark and Jacqueline Emerson. Again, these tributes don't have proper names, but Katniss comes to mentally call Emerson's character "Foxface," both due to her looks (spot on with casting here) and her prowess in the arena.

I love Tucci, but as Snow… no.

Don’t know how to feel about Kravitz either. Not at all what I pictured while reading the books or what I think he should be. But I guess they’re not asking my opinion. Sigh.
