LEATHERFACE 3D gets a director
2003's THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake was one of the films that jumpstarted the modern trend of horror remakes. It ended up being an insanely scary movie, and even led to a 2006 prequel. The idea of a third film to join the new era of Leatherface has been around since 2009, with 3D being one of its major selling points. Then the film seemingly disappeared, until now.
Director John Luessenhop is now in talks to join the project. The helmer most recently directed TAKERS.
This revitalization of LEATHERFACE 3D will be produced by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes, just as the first two were, but will be at Lionsgate instead of New Line. Not much is known about the plot currently, but it supposedly will take place during two timelines. The first would be immediately after the 2003 film, and the other would be in present day.
I really love the new TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE films, and although I'm over 3D horror movies, I'm still very excited about this one. Leatherface is such an iconic character, one who is genuinely scary. I hope that this new film can hold up to the bar set by the last couple of films, thus far we have no reason to doubt it.
Are you guys excited to see LEATHERFACE 3D?
