Lee Daniels to direct THE PAPERBOY; starring Tobey Maguire, Sofia Vergara, Matthew McConaughey, and Zac Efron
Lee Daniels has been searching for his next project for a long while, and it seems that it's finally taking shape. After the critical success of PRECIOUS, Daniels seemed to have his pick of projects, going back and forth on developing SELMA, THE BUTLER, THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, and THE PAPERBOY, which he ultimately is moving forward with.
THE PAPERBOY is an adaptation of Pete Dexter's 1995 novel of the same name. THR describes the plot as a "sexual thriller, which follows a Miami Times reporter as he returns to his Florida hometown to investigate the imprisonment of a death row inmate."
No word on who will be playing which roles, but he's already got big names like Tobey Maguire, Matthew McConaughey, Sofia Vergara, and Zac Efron attached.
This project has already spent over a decade in development under Pedro Almodovar, and while he'll still be involved in some capacity, Daniels will be taking over the directorial reins.
