Legendary looking to nab HOT WHEELS

Shockingly enough, it looks as though there has been quite a bit of interest in the long-talked about big screen take on the beloved Hot Wheels toy line.

However, according to Variety, that search for a home is over. The outlet is reporting that Legendary Entertainment, subsidiary of WB, is in early talks to grab up the rights to the film, which would bring the iconic Mattel toy line to theaters everywhere.

The film was originally set to follow up SPEED RACER for producer Joel Silver, but was ditched after that film bombed at the box office. Hell, a big screen take on Hot Wheels dates to 2003, when McG was originally attached to helm the project for Sony’s Columbia Pictures.

Now, while most may scoff at the idea of a Hot Wheels feature, I think that given the right talent, it could be quite an intriguing project. I think that an action-heavy racing film could be really fun, if the right people got behind it. That may be asking a bit much, but with Legendary and WB backing it, this could prove to be quite promising.
