Leonardo DiCaprio joining Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED?

This is still very much a rumor, but with one hell of a source backing it up.

According to Jeff Goldsmith, former Creative Screenwriting magazine Senior Editor, Leonardo DiCaprio is involved in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino film, DJANGO UNCHAINED. He tweeted today “Casting Rumor: Leonardo DiCaprio WILL play villain Calvin Candie in Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED! QT wanted him for I.B. & now has him.”

Now, again, this is still very much a rumor, but with Goldsmith being quite in the know within the LA/Hollywood set, this should have some sort of validity to it. Tarantino was hellbent on getting DiCaprio for INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, but ultimately nabbed Christoph Waltz for the role of Hans Landa, so this is not at all an odd move for Tarantino.

DiCaprio has been attached to the project for a while, even allegedly writing the character of Dr. Schultz for the actor, but again, handing the role over to Waltz. Personally, I think this could be one hell of an interesting role for the actor, one that would be unlike anything he’s ever had on his filmography. Here’s to hoping this thing happens. More on this as it comes.
