Coming out of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, very few films had the same level of palpable buzz as Drake Doremus’ beloved hit, LIKE CRAZY.

Discussed in the same breath as films like last year’s BLUE VALENTINE, the film saw a huge bidding war, culminating in Paramount nabbing up the film for a paltry $4 million.

Well, according to the LA Times, Paramount is looking to keep this film’s creative team relatively intact, as the studio has picked up the rights to an upcoming sci-fi film from Doremus, co-writer Ben York Jones, and producer Jonathan Schwartz, entitled THROUGH TO YOU.

The film is based off of a novel by Emily Hainsworth, and follows a “grieving teen who discovers a parallel world in which his girlfriend is still alive.” The film sounds somewhat similar to fellow Sundance hit, ANOTHER EARTH, but with a much more romantic, and seemingly less existential, conceptual bent.

Personally, while I have not been able to see LIKE CRAZY, the film does have its fair share of buzz, and with an intriguing premise like this, my hopes are relatively high. Of all the recent young adult novel adaptations we’ve seen and will be seeing, this is far and away the most intriguing, so the potential for a really great film is there, and in spades.
